MY JOB SEARCH EXPERIENCE

On the 22nd of May, 2013, I bid campus farewell having completed my four year Bachelor of Science Degree in Quantity surveying. Unlike other friends, I did not have fatigue or a specific need to rest from the long four years. That is not to say, however, that I was not feeling the argue to relax and savour the reality of completing a course that literally took over my life and often got me into trouble with some friends who felt neglected because I was concentrating too much on my studies.

Unknown to me at that time was the fact that however much enthusiasm I had to join the working environment, there was nothing much I could do to speed up that process apart from dropping endless applications and a redesigned CV, not forgetting all the simple certificates I had acquired in recognition for a few capacities I had served in during my Campus days.

In a few days, I found myself pondering about which organisations to apply to since my first choice has already delivered the bad news that they did not have sufficient contracts to take on a new permanent employee. My efforts to get in on contract-by-contract basis did not yield to fruition. I found myself having to re-engage my archives to identify organisations where I believe my potential will be fully utilised while I also gain new skills and competencies.

Long story short, I have so far dropped off six applications. one to my departmental head at the University (am not sure I like teaching, but desperate times call for...), another at a well established Quantity Surveying firm, and others to the top four Building and Civil Engineering contractors in the country. (none of these four has Ugandans as their proprietors...sad!!)

Today is the #9th day since I finished my undergraduate studies. None of the six organisations I have applied to has given me any kind of feedback and yet I still believe. My score (..read CGPA) not withstanding (it is good by the way), I know that I will get employment. if not for any other reason, just because the Lord who started a good work in me will bring it to accomplishment. That's His promise and He's not man to lie or change His mind.

Over the years, I have learnt that hope is very important and Faith is the cornerstone of any believer. When I look back at my background and the far my Lord has brought me, through suspensions in high school and spells of fear for lack of tuition fees at campus, I know that I serve a living God. And I know that this Lord I serve has my best interests at heart and His plans are only to prosper me. (Jer. 29:11). Looking back, I know that it's only a matter of time before I get a phone call or an email for an interview which I can not wait to ace and get a good job.

As the days go by and I wait patiently, I know that my efforts are not in vain and the best and most appropriate job is being prepared for me because God has proven it more than once in my life, that He knows what's best for me.
